Day 19: Final ride into St Malo!

Day 18:  Tues 28th July

A picturesque end to my marathon cycle ride from Bibao in Spain

Today is my final cycle ride, and I’ve achieved about 650 miles with 26,000 ft of ascent from Bilbao in Spain to here, Saint-Malo. I was hoping to have completed the ride all the way to Dieppe, but the heat has affected me and I’ve had illness on the route. By all accounts, the weather is going to be very hot in the next week. So I hope everybody will be happy that I’ve had a good crack at it and they will continue to make donations to fund medical aid and ambulances for Ukraine.

The final day’s cycling has been extremely pleasant, leaving behind the beautiful river port of Dinan and its picturesque buildings and restaurants.

I cycle up alongside the canal and then up onto the hillside to join the former railway line, now another one of those marvelous cycle paths, this time going into Dinard. The route takes one almost into the centre of Dinard.

I turn off so that I can use the little ferry which runs across the mouth of the river Rance to Saint-Malo itself. A pleasurable end to what has been a tough cycle ride with many challenges, but nevertheless well worth doing.

I’ve raised nearly £3,000, and I hope that we can turn that into much more once I arrive back in England. Thank you.
