President Zelensky addresses EU Parliament marking 1,000 days since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a virtual address to the European Parliament on Nov. 19, to mark 1,000 days since Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The war between Russia and Ukraine marked its 1,000th day today, November v19th 2024, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the European Parliament, reinforcing his calls for continued support from the European Union. Speaking via video link, Zelensky thanked the EU for its steadfast assistance to Ukraine, underscoring the vital need to sustain and intensify these efforts as winter approaches and the threat of Russian attacks on infrastructure escalates. His message was met with prolonged applause from MEPs, as European leaders debated future strategies for Ukraine’s security.

From Ukranians: Today marks 1000 days since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Those 1000 days changed the world as we knew it. They have brought more grief and loss to our beloved motherland than the previous 80 years since WWII.  It is difficult to find words to describe the tragedy of this war: unprovoked, unfair, cruel, and ruthless.
It is hard to measure the tragedy of every single Ukrainian in the world. How to see and feel the pain and sacrifice of those who fought, those who were lost in action, who became POWs, those who lost their health on the battlefield, those who lost their loved ones, and those who live in everyday fear of such loss, those who were killed and injured during air raids, those who lost their homes and everything they got in life, those who fleed their homes, those who see the enemy soldiers walking along the streets of their beloved.

Russia is exploiting loopholes to sell oil to the UK

The UK imports a number of petroleum products refined from Russian crude, including jet fuel, gasoline and diesel. Sanctions prevent the direct export of Russian crude to Britain, but third party countries, like Turkey, China and India, can still import the oil to produce gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from Russia. The refining process changes the country of origin of the finished product, meaning even though the oil originated in Russia, the fuel can now be freely exported to western countries, including the UK, and sold on to ordinary consumers.  This sequence of events has been called the ‘refining loophole’.

The British-based non-profit group, Mission Ukraine UK, is campaigning for closure of the loophole. To support them, they would like you to write to your MP.  To help you they have drafted some suggested text. Click HERE to read and copy/load  down the text.

Lewes Depot, in collaboration with the local group Ukrainian Hearts, will host a Ukrainian Supper Club following a screening of *The Flowers of Ukraine*. This cultural evening will feature Ukrainian food and aims to raise awareness about the ongoing war in Ukraine. Ukrainian Hearts, a group of Ukrainian women living in Lewes, organize events to support Ukraine and share their heritage with the local community.

Hello, my foreign friends! 

My name is Andriy, call sign ‘Falcon’. In a past life, I was an architect from Odesa. But, with the invasion of our land, I joined the Ukrainian Army. Just now we are in the Luhansk region in the east. More than 95 % of this territory is already occupied by Russians but we are fighting for our country.  I’m happy that my knowledge and skills help us to fight, but it’s very dangerous here.

At the moment, I am the commander of a platoon of operators of unmanned aerial vehicles in the 67th OMBr (special  mechanized brigade).  The platoon was newly created, so we didn’t have enough supplies. The critical need now is a new pick-up truck to drive to the frontline to pick up/drop off soldiers and equipment.  The situation at the front is now such that it is very dangerous to drive in a car without a REF. It is necessary to equip vehicles with a radio electronic fight (REF) device , which turns off all ranges of FPV drones. 

We desperately need money to buy pick-up trucks. Please donate to our fund. Details below. Thank you
